"Around Sound" sound exhibition (:

I have never visited any sound exhibition before. This is such a new thing for me.

When I first got to know that we were going to visit a sound exhibition, I thought there would be some many music instrument and maybe live band performing there.

However, it was totally out of my expectation that there was neither music instrument nor live band.

The exhibition held in Kwun Tong Pier, it is really awesome. It is so special to do art performance there, maybe it is because that the Kwun Tong Ferry Pier is an art itself, that it is quite big yet empty and old. I have no idea how to describe this place, it is really special. It feels like that you are far away from a busy cosmopolitan, when you see the sunlight came in and when you hear the sound of the waves.

Let me out ! Let me out !!!!!

When we first enter the Pier, we saw an artist - Matt Cook, who squatted down by some special devices. He connected them with battery and made different sounds.

everyone was taking photos of him
After watching Matt’s performance, we went to the upper floor of the pier. We saw some glass bottles were placed on the floor which formed a straight line. However, we have no idea why they were put there.

Then, Akio Suzuki and Hiromi Miyakita started their performance. Their performance included  2 parts. In the 1st part, while Mr Akio was nailing the nails on the wood, Hiromi Miyakita danced according to the sounds that Mr Akio produced. Their cooperation was really great.

In the 2nd part, Hiromi Miyakita danced with the bottles that we saw when we went to the upper floor. At that moment, I finally realized that all the bottles were filled with water. Hiromi Miyakita kept spinning and poured the water out of the bottles. Also, she was holding an bottle and ran around. At the same time Mr Akio used the glass bottles to make different sounds.

Although, I don’t really get the story behind these performances, I pretty enjoy them. I think they are creative and quite special. These performances remind me that sound and music are always around us, even some normal material, such as bottles and nails can produce amazing sounds.

P.S. Me and +Nikita Wai Ling Leung  climbed up to the secret rooftop of the pier.
Hope that we won't be prosecuted for trespassing ... hahahaha anyway, we had so much fun.
